One of the hardest parts of being a parent is the sleep that your baby gets. You just want your baby to go to sleep, so that you can sleep too! It’s exhausting when your baby doesn’t seem to want to go to sleep.

So what’s a tired parent to do? You need a simple way to put your baby to sleep that works fast. Here’s a little trick to get your baby to fall asleep in less than a minute. Trust that it’s much easier on your mental state then letting your sweet baby just cry it out alone in their room, or loading them into your car for a middle of the night ride. That gets old fast.

Step One: Lay Them Down in Their Crib

Place your baby on their back in the crib. Swaddle them if they are very little still, usually 6 months and under, and like to fall asleep that way. Having them wrapped up like a little “baby burrito” if you will. This helps them to calm down and relax. They won’t be bothered by the motion of their own hands distracting them from sleep — keeping their senses awake and engaged.

Step Two: Brush Lightly Over Their Face

You can do this technique with your hands or with a piece of tissue or Kleenex. Lightly brush your fingers over their face, starting at their forehead, over their eyes, and down to the chin. Do this five or six times and you’ll see that it instantly relaxes your baby’s face, so they naturally close their eyes. It’s genius. This absolutely triggers them to fall asleep. It’s like a little magic trick. If you don’t believe it, have someone do it to you on your face, so you can see the relaxing effect that it brings to you. You instantly want to close your eyes when someone does this. The baby feels the same way.

Step Three: Leave the Room

Once your baby’s eyes are very sleepy or closed, leave the room quietly and quickly. More than likely your baby will be so relaxed and happy, they will drift right off. Plus, it only took under a minute to perform this little trick. Trust us — it works every single time!
