A young boy from Southern California named Justin A. Wilson II — nicknamed LJ — is only three years old, but he has the mad drumming skills of someone three times his age.
LJ took to the drums when he was in the womb, according to his father, Justin Wilson, who has been posting videos of his drumming prodigy on Facebook since he was 23 months old.
“LJ’s love for music and musical ability began in the womb. He would tap rhythmically when his mom would tap her fingers on her belly and move when she sang to him,” Wilson told ABC13.
Back in June of 2016, then-2-year-old LJ became a viral media superstar when his father posted a video on Facebook of one of LJ’s first drumming jam sessions, which has been watched nearly 2 million times.
LJ’s musical gifts are in his genes, His parents, Justin and Shelana, perform in a jazz band together called Wilson & Co. Dad is the keyboardist and mom is the singer. Even his aunt, Shelea, is a recording artist who has been noted as having the vocal styling of Whitney Houston and the piano chops of Alicia Keys.
Instead of reading LJ nursery rhymes, Wilson exposed his son to rhythms featuring classical and jazz-music composition. It’s no wonder he sometimes sits in with his parents’ band.
Now at the tender age of 3, LJ has graduated to even more popular music, drumming a hip-hop version of Bruno Mars’ “24K Magic” with his own killer fills.
This little drumming genius has just begun.
