31 Things That’ll Keep Your Kid Occupied On The Weekends

1. Arts and Crafts Kits

Arts and crafts can keep your children busy and nourish their creativity at the same time. Getting an arts and crafts kit for your kid is a sure way to keep them occupied during those long, idle weekends. Such kits usually come with all necessary supplies and instructions that help them create beautiful artwork.

Consider the variety of options available – painting sets, sewing kits, pottery tools, jewelry making kits, etc. With guidance, your child can create masterpieces while developing patience, focus, and creative thinking skills. It’s a fun-filled learning opportunity that kids will always look forward to.

When my niece turned 8, I gifted her an embroidery kit. She loved it! Every weekend she would stitch cute patterns onto clothes or make small art pieces. This became a fun activity that kept her busy and ultimately nurtured her love for design.

  • An all-inclusive origami folding kit
  • Pottery spinning wheel set
  • Drawing and sketching set complete with colored pencils and different types of sketch pads
  • Weaving loom kit for creating woven patterns
  • Jewelry making kit for DIY bracelets, necklaces, and earrings
  • A sewing kit for doll clothes plus a matching doll

2. Board Games Galore

Board games are not only an effective way to keep kids occupied but also an opportunity to educate and instill valuable life skills. From strategy games that inspire critical thinking to simple games for quick fun, there’s a plethora of options to choose from.

Board games can be surprisingly versatile and cater to different age groups and interests. They are also an excellent tool for honing teamwork, fairness, taking turns, and mapping out strategies. Plus, it’s a great alternative to reduce screen time without compromising on fun.

Let’s take chess for instance – my cousin’s 10-year-old loves the game. He spends hours strategizing and beating everyone in the family! His ability to focus, calculate moves, think strategically has significantly improved since he started playing it.

  • A classic like Monopoly or Scrabble
  • Educational games such as Trivial Pursuit Kids’ Edition
  • Fun-filled group games like Pictionary or Charades
  • Strategic games like Chess or Battleship
  • Puzzle-based board games like Labyrinth or Zingo
  • Action-packed adventure games like Jumanji or Dungeons & Dragons

3. Virtual Reality headsets

Today’s kids are incredibly tech-savvy, so having a VR headset could certainly keep them engaged. VR devices transport kids into different worlds – educational, gaming, exploratory – the possibilities are endless.

These touch-responsive headsets can offer an immersive 3D experience that’s not only entertaining but also informational at times. Games, virtual trips, learning experiences – there’s a wide range of things your child can do with a VR headset.

I got my nephew a VR set last Christmas. He uses it to visit international museums, walk on the moon, even dive deep into oceans, all while sitting in his room! It has opened up a whole new world of discovery and learning for him.

  • VR headset primarily designed for educational purposes
  • Gaming-based VR units with a variety of interactive games
  • Headsets with nature exploration features, like underwater or space expeditions
  • VR sets aimed at creative art design and imaginative play
  • VR devices that include physical activity to promote exercise
  • International travel-based VR units for exploring landmarks and civilizations
